1970s Kelek 'Stars And Stripes' Chronograph

1970s Kelek 'Stars And Stripes' Chronograph

Why This Watch Matters

If you like the 1970s, you will love the funky colors of this oversized chrono.

The Full Story

If you aren't familiar with the brand Kelek, this funky 70s chronograph makes quite an impressive introduction. This Kelek shares more than similar looks with the Bulova Chronograph C, it is actually identical in design. The Bulova quickly earned the nickname “stars and stripes” because of its dial colors, and it remains a very coveted vintage chrono, with an impressive 43mm case. Granted, the colors have changed slightly on this example, but we actually like them better here - especially the dashing orange of the handset. The water resistance noted on the caseback is not only there for show; the case opens to the front in order to avoid any potential water infiltration through a snap caseback. This vintage Kelek wears like no other on the wrist, thanks to its 39mm plexi.

What we Love and What You Should Know

The orange handset is in great condition and brings a dash of bright color to the blue dial, which does not show any major imperfections. The stainless-steel case is well preserved, except for some scratches to the caseback. This is likely due to former opening attempts (since the case actually opens to the front to guarantee a higher water resistance). The crown is unsigned, which is correct for this reference. Lastly, there is some crazing on the lower part of the dial, most visible only at a certain angle.
